"Supervisor Dallas, final log. I've made sure they can't leave this sub deck. But neither can I. I've seen what they do... to the bodies. What they become. And I cannot let that happen to me. At least if I don't have any limbs... I can't kill anyone when I'm infected. Please, tell Dawn... and the kids... that I love them."
—Dallas, before dismembering himself.[1]

A. Dallas was a Supervisor and 2nd Engineer aboard the USG Ishimura.[1]

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Dallas was married to a woman named Dawn and had at least two children. Before the Necromorph outbreak, he was responsible for reporting the results from each planet cracking operation. He wrote a log reporting about the processing of a rockball from Aegis VII when contact with the colony was first lost.[2]

Second Aegis VII Incident[]

During the initial hours after the infection reached the ship, Dallas, along with a large group of survivors, went to the Mining Deck, which was one of the last secure decks.[3] There, he was at some point confronted by Dr. Terrence Kyne, who took one of Dallas' fellow miners hostage and demanded that Dallas give him access codes to the Cargo Bay so that the doctor could reach the Marker. When a confused Dallas told Kyne that the miners did not have codes for the Cargo Bay, the doctor stormed off while Dallas called Security, to no avail.[4]

As the infection progressed, the Mining Deck was eventually completely overrun as well. Dallas understood that the Necromorphs needed human bodies to spread the infection, and decided to commit suicide by severing his limbs so he would not be able to kill anyone once infected.[1]

Trivia[]

  • His name may come from Arthur Dallas, a likewise named character from Alien, a 1979 sci-fi film by Ridley Scott that was a major source of inspiration for Dead Space. In the extended cut of Alien, Arthur Dallas also chooses to commit suicide in order to avoid a worse death through the aliens' reproductive process.
  • Despite having removed 3 of his limbs in the audio log, the Slasher model used to portray Dallas in the original game still has both arms. This was probably overlooked by the developers in order to keep using the standard model for Slashers.
  • Dallas is the only victim in the franchise to sever their own limbs in order to avoid becoming a Slasher.
