It's only been three years since dead space 3 released. I mean resident evil was in the dark for 4 years after 6 and now resident evil 7 is coming out. Yeah dead space did flop but you have to admit the storyline behind it was so diverse and had a specific meaning of these survivors wanting to bring an alien civilization to Extinction and I feel like EA can go so many ways. Maybe if they stuck with the survival horror theme and less action then a possible dead space 4 could bring the franchise back from the dead. Or they should at least finish Isaacs journey in a meaningful way. My thoughts on how dead space 4 should go is that there is another ishimura that has similar events to the 1st game and this ishimura holds secrets to stopping the necromorphs and markers for good which is where Issac comes in and maybe returning characters like Ellie and Lexine. It would be a good ending for Issac. Ending his story where it all began. But what are your guys thoughts about the franchise making a comeback.
It 's hard to say. A lot of the creative crew behind the original three games have since moved on from EA and Visceral. Then again who knows, they may return for a fourth outing. Even if they do not, EA still owns the rights to the franchise and despite Dead Space 3 not being the smash hit they expected, there is demand for a sequel. Sadly, with time fan awareness of the franchise may fade which could hurt that market. On the other hand, a fresh take on the franchise might be what is needed. I just hope it is not a complete reboot if and when another game comes out.
Though I would not expect a whole new Dead Space soon. Visceral is at work on a still unknown Star Wars game for EA. After that project is complete, then there might be a chance. In the meantime, it may be a good idea to send fan mail to EA in general and Visceral in particular if any of you are genuinely interested in seeing a return of the franchise. An HD re-release of the original three games and DLC would be a nice (and easy) cash grab to pose to EA before a fourth installment. An HD re-release of the Bioshock games was recently released, so why not give the Dead Space games the same treatment?
EA said that right now they have other projects their working on right now, but they said that they haven't forgotten the franchise and want to bring it back in the future. The dead space franchise is huge. I mean sure DS3 wasn't as good as DS1 and DS2 but look at the resident evil franchise RE6 didn't do so well and now RE7 is coming out this January. So there is still hope for the franchise. There's even talk of a live action film adaptation.
I wouldn't mind seeing another Dead Space game as long as it returned to the formula of the first two games. If it ends up being a Dead Space 4, then, if Dead Space 3: Awakened is canon, it'll obviously have Isaac and his allies fighting the Brethren Moons and saving the Earth. If they succeed, then maybe the Necromorph threat will be gone for real this time.
With Visceral dead, the likelihood of the franchise "being made whole" again is as unlikely as it has ever been. EA may touch it again, but I don't trust them anymore with making such a game without bugs, rapacious microtransactions and a dumber storyline than the last one. Unless EA loses the franchise rights and it is given to a dedicated studio with some input from the original writers and the rest of the game development crew, I doubt a good Dead Space game will come to fruition.
Maybe it is best that Dead Space 3 is the last game. Granted, the Awakened DLC left the storyline hanging off a cliff but is that not a good thing? It leaves room for our imaginations to fill the gap rather than a definitive but unappealing ending.
